Self-realization and self-exploration are monumental tasks for any human being, however for gender diverse people, the journey is extremely complex and muti-dimensional. Denying one’s authenticity creates a disruption in the energetic flow of that person and can cause depression, anxiety, OCD, relationships issues and PTSD

Not only do some people have to heal internalized transphobia, but at the same time have to deal with micro and macro-aggressions and people’s opinions all around. It can leave you feeling like “how can I convince you of something that I am just beginning to figure out myself?” Discovering who you really are should be a festive declaration, however this is often met with combative resistance.

Our Gender Diverse Clients have worked with us on:

– Cognitive dissonance and negative self beliefs

– Abandonment or rejection

– Internalized shame

– Setting boundaries with others and dealing with misgendering

– Identity based trauma

People pleasing or overcompensation for acceptance

– Isolation and substance overuse

–  Grounding in their identity

– Medical transitioning

Oftentimes, support is minimal and inclusive communities are small. This may cause you to put up with unhealthy attachments due to fear of isolation. We all need to be seen and loved exactly as we are- this is a fundamental human need second only to food and water.

Counseling can help reconnect you to the most fundamental truth: you are the expert of your own life experience

At Mindfully Alive, we have taken intentional care to carve out an approach to psychotherapy that is built to support the gender-diverse experience. We take a justice centered position and strongly dismiss the idea that anyone has any right to tell another person how they should be in their own life. We believe the issue is woven into the fabric of rigid and inflexible societal norms, and not with you.

Firstly, we will start out by offering you a safe container in which to explore your beingness- your essence. Secondly, we will address anything that requires immediate resolve- panic attacks, anxiety, depressive symptoms, substance overuse, etc.

Most importantly, we will work with trauma from its roots- from its origins. Our hope is for you to embody lasting feelings of self-compassion, self-empathy, confidence and self-love. This work will take place more in the heart and body than in the mind. Because of that, therapy with us will be a unique and individualized framework co-created together that meets your unique needs. There is no cookie-cutter approach to this work.

Having said that, we rely heavily on mindfulness, learning to surrender to emotions as they come without making them go away fast, EMDR and relational frameworks.

Don’t waste one more day- counseling can help

We specialize in working with queer, gender diverse, transgender and non-binary people

All Mindfully Alive therapists are highly trained professionals who make a point to keep up with the latest best practices and continuously educate themselves on their blind spots. Beyond that, we all participate in supervision and consultation meetings with each other on a weekly basis to MAKE SURE that we inform each other (with loving kindness) of any areas of growth we should pay attention to. It is our mission at Mindfully Alive to nurture own personal growth continuously and to be present, open and take a justice based stance against oppression.

Strength lies in differences, not in similarities. Connect with us today.
